About this Talk
At the first sign of my child's struggle with literacy, and as a fan of form drawings in Waldorf Education, I honed in on sound and embedded letters at home, yet formal schooling became more and more stressful as my child fell further behind.
In kindergarten we began dual enrolling as to allow me to provided Structured Literacy via a very reputable "print to speech" program in the US. After two years of continued difficulty, and attempts at other more streamlined P2S systems, I begrudgingly began our venture into OG and eventually fulltime homeschooling.
After over 4 years of commitment to OG methods, we'd made little progress, so I took a step back to consider whether there was "another way". I knew our lessons resonated with my daughter when we started with spelling and I began to notice a pattern in our decodable book sets that led me to wonder if there was a name to this method.
Being a natural treasure hunter at heart, I went hunting and gathering as many resources as I could find on the topic of what I was later to learn was Lingustic Phonics. Upon brain overload I decided to make a facebook page for myself so as to have a place to deposit and reflect on the information I harvested, and added 3 friends for good measure. Now 10 months and 6k people later, I have a "reader" at home and a lot more like-minded literacy friends.
